I SURVIVED SIX HOURS!

Had a looooong break today... went JP to catch Good Times, Bed Times, a crappy HK movie... quite farnie actually. There were only 3 people in the cinema, including me. I think I laughed the loudest. Just got back from Elise's place... played Bishi Bashi... hahah... the PS as temperamental as me. At first the PS tak standard, then after that almost kena thrashed... sigh.

Tomorrow got EED & ECE. =P Haven't prepared tut yet. Bed is inviting me... but I wanna read my EAE text - totally confused now. It's almost the end of WEEK 2 and I'm still disorganised. Got topic for ECS - Factors interacting within a local environment. Huh? Sigh... Need tons of prayer.

Although I really hope that I can cross over, it seems like there'll be TONS of adjustment to do. Babies how? Family how? =P

Had a 'discussion' with Ben last nite. Finally I got stuff out of my system. I mustn't keep quiet, a.k.a. silent treatment. It's terrible. I must protect this marriage, and keep communication channels open. I must also remember that he loves me no matter what. If he could take me back again after what i had done to him, I can't say anything else. I'm afraid of losing him. But I must always remember that if God has put us together, then we have the hand of God upon us if we walk in His will. :)

Haven't been reading the bible. oops. sigh.

Joy's stools are hard... argh. the floor needs vacuuming. the plants have been neglected. This is the SIMS ALIVE version. Cheats anyone?

wtf is wrong with me?

Monday, July 28, 2003

I actually felt lonely in school today. Huge rift causing tension with quite a number of people. Sigh, so juvenile, so sad. Can't everything be alright, and everyone be happy? Now I feel so awkward even around her. Sigh...

Anyway, BEN REGISTERED MY MODULES FOR ME!!! Praise the Lord! Wanted to take a 'lamer', but Ben advised against it, saying it wouldn't look professional. Throughout the 'up&down' server time, I managed to register for my Prescribe module! :D Building Home-School Relationships for Enhancing Learning. Prayed that the Lord allocate a place for me, and He did! I've always said that as a teacher, I love to work with parents to build a positive learning environment for the child to excel in all aspects. :) And I believe I've done my best throughout my short teaching career...

My last semester's results wasn't fantastic, but it seems that my dissatisfaction has caused some disdain with my peers. "Not enough As issit?" Sigh... I've become one of those... just when I start loving what i do and excelling in it, i lose myself. Thank the Lord for my close frens & ben for keeping my head on my shoulders.

Gotta go file my notes and read them. Have to read Harry Potter & the Philosopher's Stone, as well as Emily of Emerald Hill. I'm halfway through the latter.

KICKBOXING TOMORROW! :D Yay... will get to meet my bud, Elise... yah lah,... u. heheh... Wish Mich could make it too. It was amazing, last week. A God-given opportunity... when our timetables (or the lack of it) allowed us to KB together! (What have we been doing during the vacation???)

Oops! I did it again!

Last nite, packed my bag for class for today - ETM tut & EAE lect... then prior to going to bed at 1am... I realised ETM tutorial starts next week! So, with my 'exhibit A' known as my huge schoolbag, I abandoned it and slept in peace... :) uploaded my photoshoot pictures today and released the actual day shots. Then forum girls started asking, "eh, u Miss singapore uh?" =P *paiseh!* Sigh... so long liao, still dun dare to face it when people ask.

Anyway, the forum girls have been very helpful & concerned especially about the question I posed. Many asked me to go for a checkup asap. Will arrange for appointment tomorrow.

Met Elise & her friend, Zhen Ke, in the evening... Kyler & Blanca postponed their appointment coz Blanca wasn't feeling too good. Had to go buy a bag for his mum who was returning to Adelaide for further studies. Was difficult trying to stay on task buying the bag coz was so distracted! Both of us! Heheh... kept wanting to shop... =P keep thinking i've got no tops to wear for school... sigh... and then i saw a wedding booth, and the laoban signalling his staff coz i looking over... wah... quickly run man! :) Enough of touting liao... :D

The wedding video's in!!! Fabian delivered it last nite. He's flying off to Beijing for 10 weeks this Sunday. Watched the MTV twice... now watching the video. Nice... worth every cent of it. :)

NTU FLAG DAY @ HOME PART III

Finished packing a pile! YAY!!!! :D Now got a new pile knee-high to file... Seems like I just shifted the old pile to a new location, at a different angle... but! What I did do was extract all the nice wedding stuff- receipts, greeting cards, excess cards, lying press kits from a certain delight-ful caterer... :P Well, I've been meaning to do this... and here it is! The correspondence from our wedding co-ordinator & their response! :D

THE CATERING SAGA
PART I: THE COMPLAINT LETTER

Mr James Wong
Managing Director
Continental Delight Catering Services
46 Senoko Drive, S(758229)

Re: Feedback and Report of Service Rendered

Dear Mr Wong:

I am writing in my capacity as wedding coordinator on behalf of Mr and Mrs Benjamin Teo, and on behalf of their parents. We wish to register our feedback of the service rendered by your staff during Mr and Mrs Benjamin Teoís wedding reception on 21 June. We hope that you will be patient in reading and responding to our report and queries.

We are appreciative of the early efforts put into the planning of the wedding, such as the food tasting, the site inspection by Mr Huan, the early setting up of the tentages, and the readiness to customise the order. We are grateful to Mr Huan for his tireless work during the buffet reception.

However, the delivery of the order and the performance of the staff on the day of the wedding were unacceptable. We wish to bring to your attention the shocking mishandling of the whole event prior to and during the wedding reception:

1. It has been clearly stated during the site inspection five days before the wedding that the buffet should be ready by 3.15pm. Yet, the order confirmation sheet, which was fraught with errors, timed the setup at 3.30pm and the food layout at 4.30pm. I had personally called on Mr Huan on 18 June, Wednesday, to remind him about this error. On the day of the wedding, the food arrived after the wedding ceremony had ended at about 3.30pm.

We fail to comprehend why our requests for the buffet to be ready by 3.15pm could not be fulfilled despite the reminders. If the mistake had been discovered earlier or the delay anticipated, we wish to know why we could not have been informed earlier. This would have allowed our organisers to react to the contingency instead of being left in the dark up till the last minute. The failure to observe the correct timing was compounded by the lack of transparency on the part of your staff. Until this very moment, we still do not know whether CDCS has realised that a mistake has been made.

Please respond to this: Why was the buffet not ready by 3.15pm despite the reminders? Why could we not be informed earlier that the buffet setup would be late ?
2. Floral arrangements for the signing tables, and banquet chairs for the bride and groom were expected to be delivered by 11.00am as reflected in the order confirmation sheet. We did not receive the floral arrangements that day even though the tables had been set up. When your staff arrived at the church for the 11.00am setting up, I had personally informed the gentleman who was in charge that the banquet chairs were missing. He, and later Mr Huan, had assured me that it would arrive before 1.00pm. The wedding ceremony started at 2.00pm. The banquet chairs were seats for the bride and groom during the wedding ceremony and we had engaged two florists to come and specially dress up the chairs with flowers. As it turned out, the chairs did not arrive until after the wedding ceremony had ended! The florists had left by then for another engagement. In the end, we still have to honour our payments to the florists even though they could not do what they were paid to do with the chairs.

We again lament the lack of transparency in not informing us that the chairs could not come on time as promised. This unreliability had left our organisers with the incredible situation of having seats for all the guests but none for the bride and groom. An honest admission would have given us more time to react and find suitable replacement chairs for the bride and groom and utilise the services of the florists specially ordered for the occasion.

Please respond to this: We wish to understand why the chairs had been omitted even though it was clearly stated in the order confirmation sheet. We wish to understand why the chairs arrived after the wedding ceremony despite assurances from your staff that it would be on time.

3. The overall service of the staff was unsatisfactory and the last-minute delivery of the food items raised several complaints regarding the quality of the food. We hope that you will take note of the following:

ï Our own ushers, dressed in their formal attire, had to help with the unloading of the food in order to expedite the setting up.

ï The VIP table was not served.

ï The ice-carving left a huge puddle of water around the dessert table in the
middle of the reception hall. No attempts were made to rectify the problem.

ï Guests had feedback that dessert items, such as the chocolate eclairs and cream puffs, were served frozen.

ï We noticed that Mr Huan appeared to be the only person serving and clearing tables in the reception hall. A few of us, including myself, had to personally clear the cocktail tables when the used plates and drinking glasses were left to pile up. The replenishment of food was also not done promptly between the two reception areas.

Please respond to this: Why was there an apparent shortage of service when there are eleven members of the staff (one manager, two cooks and eight service staff, four of which were additionally requested and paid for) at work ?

ï A few of our helpers also gave the feedback that they were refused service at the laksa hawker stall after they had helped to serve the guests. The reason given by Mr Huan was that the stall had run out of noodles. My helpers were sure that this could not have been the case because they saw noodles being disposed of during the packing up at the end of the reception. We also noticed that there was still a fair amount of ingredients, such as taupok and fish cake, left over when the stall stopped serving. While the crowd might have thinned considerably by 5.00pm, we expected the service to continue because many of our helpers had yet eaten. The hawker stalls were paid for and the decision to call it to a halt and pack up should be given by our organisers and not by the staffís assessment of the crowdís demand.

Please respond to this: We wish to understand why the laksa stall had stopped serving so soon.

We wish to state that the main purpose of this correspondence is not to complain. But we wish to make known that we feel aggrieved by the level of service which we received that day. We are sure that you can empathise with our discontent and would not tolerate the same service if you were in our shoes. We are sure that you appreciate the significance of a wedding ceremony and reception as we do. It is not merely a social function but a prominent milestone that marks the new lives of the newly-weds. We desire to show our respect for the occasion and for the newly-weds not by being drawn into any hasty and angry accusations, but by being objective and seeking to understand what was behind the uncharacteristically poor service from your staff. We hope that you will also respond in the same spirit in order to honour the newly-weds as well as to do justice to your companyís good name.

CDCS does not become a bad company overnight and cannot have won over its extensive and prominent clientele without displaying professionalism and maturity. Therefore, we are confident that you will help us redress the matter. Mr and Mrs Benjamin Teo are overseas and will be back from 30 June, Monday. We are confident that you will be able to respond to them personally by that time. Thank you for your patience and time.

Sincerely,

Tan Boon Haur

THE CATERING SAGA
PART II: THE RESPONSE LETTER

and their reply...

09 July 2003

Mr. Benjamin Teo & Ms. [A]udrey Chua
3A Robey Crescent
Singapore 546258

Dear Ben & [A]udrey,

LETTER OF APOLOGY (65944/04/03)

Greetings from The Good Food People here at Continental Delight Catering Services.

We refer to the Feedback and Report of Service Rendered received from your wedding coordinator, Mr Tan Boon Haur dated 23 June 2003.

First and foremost, I thank you for your patience with us and I would like you to know that we are taking this matter constructively. It is unusual that we provide food and services that are not in line with our minimum standard. The operations and food preparation division have been informed of this unfortuate incident and special efforts and emphasis will be put in to make sure that incident of this sort does not repeat itself.

We acknowledge that we were unable to keep to the stipulated time as stated in the order confirmation to you. CDCS is not pushing away any responsibility in this incident. Yes, CDCS is aware that it has made a grave mistake with regards to its planning and organization this time round. We are fully aware of the undue stress, embarrassment and trouble that your good self went through during the delay of our arrivals and set up.

After doing our on (??) check with the various parties involved we have come to the following conclusion:-

Mr. Huan, who did the site inspection and the final details confirmation with your goodself, had forgotten to update the details with the divisions concerned. Due to the heavy load of event through out that week, he overlooked the details despite the repeated reminders. To make matters worse, the catering assistant assigned to your event was delayed from his previous event thus causing a chain reaction and he in his anxiety and panic, did not inform us on time for us to do a recovery. On hind side (??!), we should have informed you of the situation and we apologize for not doing so.

Due to Mr. Huan's failure to inform the respective divisions concerned, the floral arrangements arrived late as well. The cushion chairs ware totally missed out from the order (it was never ordered) and we again apologize and take responsibility for the failure to deliver the items as promised. As for the service during the event, we believed that Mr. Huan had failed to properly designate his staff to their respective duties thus resulting in unacceptable service level. The cooks at the food station was never instructed to stop serving the items and they have been reprimanded and due warning was given for their unethical and unprofessional attitude towards our guests.

Ben & Wendy (???!?!?!), we really feel that CDCS have failed to meet your expectations and we would like to invite you out for a dinner and extend our personal and heartfelt apologies in person. Thanking you in advance for your kind understanding and continuous support. We look forward to catering for you in the near future to redeem ourselves.

Should you have any query pertaining to the above, do not hesitate to contact me at contact no. 6758 3393 or via .

Regards,

Didacus Chang

A delight-ful letter... italics to highlight errors... gosh... couldn't they have proof-read their work? Anyhows, they've already taken 3 weeks to draft this letter! Shouldn't it be perfect by now?

Oh, prior to the catering experience... didn't want to work with CDCS already coz the Sales rep wasn't as efficient as expected. Fortunately, she recovered when Ben liaised with her.
NTU FLAG DAY @ HOME PART II

I must pack the room!!! Argh... got piles of stuff here & there... also dunno what to do with them... where to put them... unfinished projects such as assembling my photos from birth. Yup,... seems like i've been trying to assemble my fotos since birth... =P wanted to wake up early today to join my Prescribe Elective class "Surviving & Thriving as a beginning teacher" then I realised that each clas has 30 over people. Usually the quota is 20 I think... might go join another class. Don't want to do group work. Yesterday, a fren told me the worst member to have in a group is one who leeches on. I think otherwise... Perhaps I need some self-analysis... but I think the worst types are those who insist their idea is good and should be used but have no grounds for proving it. I'd prefer one who doesn't do anything, I dun mind doing... that's not to say I'm unco-operative... in fact I think Ben & I can tango pretty well. I'm a starter, he's a finisher. I get stuck halfway, he's got problems starting... so that's pretty good teamwork isn't it? But, for a certain group member who plagiarises and then passes the materials off as his/hers/itsown work? When asked for the sources... now that's a big question mark. Even if sources are quoted, it's all wrong. Sigh. And cannot correct the work somemore... or else I'll be 'picking' on that member. It's been a while... and I'm finally letting it all out. No more Miss Nice. =P

I've also experienced synergy. Take for instance, wedding preparation. There was trust, and within me, I felt that the gals were a fantastic bunch and we worked pretty well together. It was good. :)

But now everything's on the safe side. Think that 'fren' no longer wants me around, and has been showing me ebony hair... Haha... Well, I've been advised to just blah her aside and continue with my life... but I think it just saddens me to see the narrowness of certain paradigms... enuff said.

Well, my synergy group! Time to pay tribute! :D (Photos taken off Mich's site... :D)

Thanks Michelle for these wonderful pictures! :) And a BIG THANK YOU to Elise, Michelle, Victoria, Evonne & not forgetting Vincent a.k.a. the rooster! :)

6. Didn't mind speaking to rebonded hair. Hehe... ;)
7. Had a good chat with Vincent today, he was really helpful, helping with notes and all coz urs truly is OUTTA Blackboard. So far, he's the only one who's rendered help... :)
8. Met Michelle today and she was very shuang3 kuai4 in going Amore kickboxing!
9. Managed to catch Elise & kidnapped her to go KB too! :) Thanks Ben for the car!
10. Had a great session @ KB! :) Lasted the whole bloody thing! Erhm... stole a bit of rest here & there, but nevertheless not as paiseh as Aerobics X-training... that one really die...

I know, coz I Indian." Wah,... peng...

The game I played today... it's been updated! :D Mystery Of Time And Space.
Excited School Girl Stays At Home

AAAAHHHH!!! All about that school starting... what an anti-climax. Woke up before the alarm went off this morning (around 6) then checked my phone. Received a message from Daphne confirming if all classes are cancelled. I was like, "HUH?" Then I went online - indeed saw the messages on the news @ NIEPortal stating that classes are cancelled today due to the Freshmen Inauguration Ceremony, and on 23rd for Flag Day. So disappointed, cannot go school. :( Dunno why also... Heheh... Ben says it's a trial run for me, and asked me to check if his work's cancelled also. Went to NIE forum to confirm,... thank God some1 checked out - news is for all levels.

Will go Marine Parade soon with swimming bag and car polish. Polish car & swim later... Hmm... wonder where's the best swimming complexes in Singapore... :)

Sunday, July 20, 2003

SCHOOL STARTS TOMORROW! For once, I'm reluctant to go school... dunno if can make it through this time round. Dunno why not so enthusiastic. Also not very keen on going teaching... cham... must pray. Read Josh 1-5 today, on a very nice bible reading plan. Now on third day... have tried quite a no. of plans, but sort of keep ending up with the Israelites wandering in the desert - LOST. Pray that He'll keep me strong to the end this time round.

Not prepared for sch yet. Let's see... need to get foolscap, well-equipped pencil-case, my reliable shorthand notebook, and dun look lost tomorrow. Perhaps it's my results, but i think it's because I missed registration, that i dun feel really good abt myself. Scatter-brained. Really pray that God re-give me a sound mind...

Dunno what modules to expect this semester. And if I can study. Coz gotta balance quite a bit of things. My priority: Relationship with God, Benji, our families & friends, & our health. Did a portfolio 2 semesters ago, about my vision, and I thank the Lord that He's been giving me opportunities to keep fit with frens! Now, Ben & I are going swimming tmw and start badminton. Oh, mum wants to play badminton on Tuesday nite. Where to book court huh? Oh yah, I going KB with Elise... Hmm.... have to re-org my schedule.

Bed beckons me. Bad nap this afternoon... woke up feeling like poop. Achy neck & bad tummy again. Dull headache also. Sat on the magnetic/electric chair... heheh.. my dad-il walked up the stairs while i was sitting on it... and he seemed quite happy... :)

E E mama & family saw the wedding pictures! They're very happy with it! Siang E E even developed them into prints! 120 pcs for $50, or $0.35/pc! :) Ryan looks much stronger today... Joy screamed at Randy & the neighbour's lil girl. Notti girl... nice day... afternoon spent with benji, in-laws & huiying looking around for a suitable location for student care services. Idea is great,... perhaps I am not a woman of great faith. Really want it to succeed, however when family relations are involved, it can be pretty tricky. Also, mum-il brought up a pt, to pay the teachers, i.e. us, what we're earning now, possible? She told us to be cautious before entering such a business. However, dad-il is a risk taker. Told huiying to draft a proposal. :) I really want this to work, and will be supportive. Today's reading: BE BOLD & COURAGEOUS! Yes Lord!

Friday, July 18, 2003

School starts in 3 days' time. Renewed my Amore membership yesterday,... MUST go for the LESSONS! Forfeited 7 lessons the last time round coz kept procrastinating... Alamak, Mich & Elise are both fighting germs... No, no... I mean, Alamak! Not someone named Alamak... Nvm. Room's still in a mess, and i'm running out of ideas for great evenings. Perhaps I should just play dead... hehehhe.... nah... Forget it. Sigh. Just pray...

Haven't done my QT for today yet. Must get down to doing it. It'll be day 3!!! Yay!!! Quite hooked on Jigsaw, but ran out of the 60 min thing. Bleah. Boring... now no more game to play. School starts next week. Excited? Yah, Tues & thurs start at 830am. Woo... Can't wait to get the rest of my timetable. :} MUST remember to register... I must, I must... I must....

I want my life back! Holidays are boring spent alone! And it's too far to go anywhere! Okie... I'm lazy...

I AM SO BORED... typing student reports mindlessly... dunno how to help Ben even though I'd love to... it's pretty repetitive and i'm not doing very well... keep walking around and being distracted. I'm even blogging... Haiz... visited Carole's blog... :) chanced upon it... dun ask how... argh. Some photos to view... The Wedding and The Honeymoon. Many scenic shots...

Yesterday went to Yima's place... saw many many many fotos... wedding, italy, etc... on tv... didn't go mama's house. RANDY didn't go mama's house either!! Wah lau eh... told Siang E.E. to bring Uncle Dan's Vaio to play Photo CD, but noo........... he didn't go... sigh...

school starts in a week, and i'm still a complete mess. Kyler & Blanca's wedding was on sat, caught up with Chris & Amanda, Clarence & Sharon, and Clarence & Dorothy. Both the Clarence couple are eerily similiar... same topic, same questions, same responses, different settings. Did the wedding montage for Kyler & Blanca, apparently someone asked who did it!! WAH!!! Thinking about doing this as sideline... but heavy responsibility... esp. when teaching starts fulltime! :D I like the presentation too... :) Ben's learning Macromedia Director on his own. Will teach me when he masters it. He's a sweet darling... absolutely amazing...

This morning, my MIL called ard 1050 and asked why i was still asleep... argh... actually she asked if i was having lunch at home, and if i would like fish head bee hoon. I said ok, then she asked,"You know how to eat meh?" I was still half asleep, and then i told her I eat slowly lor... bit by bit... then she said she'll cook fish or chicken... won't give me fishhead... also a darling. so paiseh to be unfilial DIL... argh. Like the room alot to move out, but how to be 24hr good DIL???

Sigh...

Have to type reports, do angpows, pack fotos, clear all the piles of mess on the floor by 6pm. Wanna give hubby surprise... I think I'll surprise myself instead.

Wanna learn how to do couple devotional... feel like handbrakes still up...

Miss elise & michelle... hope the frenship burns strong... realised that it was through praying together that e frenship wif elise started growing strong... God is good... :)

Jude 24, "To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy"

Wah... yesterday's word, felt it was really meaningful coz of QT... wanna do it.

No bones about it, you're a loyal, nurturing Collie. A sensitive breed, you're always approachable and very in tune with others' feelings ó just like Lassie! Because of your empathetic nature, you tend to be the group psychologist to your circle of friends. Your faithful, easygoing, steadfast personality makes you a wonderful confidant; people love to come to you with their troubles. Bottom line? You're a star at interpersonal relationships and have a knack for making new friends and acquaintances wherever you go. After all, what's a Collie without a flock to look after? Since you're so giving, your buddies might not realize that you need them just as much as they need you, so make sure not to neglect yours truly. Everyone deserves some "me" time. Woof!

Yah rite... :P

Wah lau eh,... they upgraded my blog thingey... dunno if things will screw up or not... but let's hope for the best. Just came back from my gran's place, celebrated my aunt's birthday with STRAWBERRY STRUDEL! Think she was touched or something... :) that we remembered her birthday. :)

Then went back to B. Res to spend a bit of time at home... received a LAWYER'S LETTER! Argh... it's on behalf of SingTel - for my dad's overdue payment. He has been promising me to give me the money to pay his bill, but now lawyer's letter. Sigh... my father. Just heard my mum share her experience - used to have more than half a mil in the bank acct, but didn't receive bank statements for a few months,... then when she finally checked the acct, left FIFTY-NINE DOLLARS. Wah lau... I think many people would have jumped off building liao! Argh... So sad, so sad... she also asked in jest whether we want my dad's signed blank cheques. What for? Also no money in the bank account.

Well, for the good stuff... went shopping at Tangs today and spent more than $300. $200 in Tangs vouchers. Enjoyed myself with Benji-boy. :) He's been trying to connect Michelle & Mohan up,... but I seriously think it's wrong timing... But then again, most importantly, Mich's gotta allow God to grab hold of her! Yeah! :D He's the best lover! :D

I really praise God for Elise & Mich. From this wedding, I am really thankful for their help & love, and also not forgetting Vic & Evonne. Will be helping Blanca's wedding which is next saturday... not an easy time for her either. Will meet up with her on Tuesday to collect the photos for PPT & also get her talking & relaxing. :) Hm... what should I do? :D Need to send Joyce for her medical appt @ KKH in the morning also...

For tmw, settle ST bill and have dinner at home. No other plans. What else should I do? Ben's starting work tmw. Let's hope everything will work out fine. :) Gotta do QT later. :)
